They currently sit fourth in the North Division due to having played more games than some of their division rivals but are 7/8 based on points percentage. Here’s a recap of their mixed bag of results:

October 23rd: Belleville Senators @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins(7-3 W)

A strong outing for the BSens on many fronts, and several prospects had good games. Jackson Parsons delivered in net, making numerous big saves as the Sens defensive system collapsed in front of him. The BSens penalty kill was in shambles, giving up a number of grade A chances and leaving Parsons out the dry on Wilkes-Barre’s powerplay goal. They made up for it by only taking a single penalty all game, with some notable skaters, Djibril Touré and Sammy Blais staying out of the box all night. Touré stepped up by playing his physical style and not letting up on hits, while also flashing some offense, adding an assist and getting rewarded with an empty net goal to seal the game for Belleville. Up front, Xavier Bourgault, despite scoring on his only shot of the game, had a very pedestrian evening and did not play up to his usual high standard. The same could be said for Kasper Halttunen, who was invisible most of the evening, not even registering a shot on goal. On the flip side, Oskar Pettersson had a great game, getting shots to the net, making a couple of strong stick checks and setting up a pair of goals, as did Tyler Boucher, beating the Penguins goalie clean on two separate occasions. Blake Montgomery made his season debut but was a non-factor, getting a single shot on goal and looked to be getting his feet under him. Overall, it was a game where Belleville’s goaltending kept them hanging around while their forwards took advantage of the opportunities given to them.

October 24th: Belleville Senators @ Hershey Bears(5-2 L)

After travelling to Hershey, the BSens put on a similar performance as the previous night in Wilkes-Barre, and early on it looked like it would be a repeat of that game. Belleville got out to a 2-0 lead thanks to Philippe Daoust’s first of the season and a second period goal from Phil Tomasino, who was also an offensive catalyst the previous night, scoring a goal and adding three assists against the Penguins. Despite the heroics of Jackson Parsons, dressing in back to back games, Hershey’s offence finally broke through, scoring five unanswered goals, although the final two were empty netters. Most of the team were passengers on the Parsons Express, with Christian Kyrou playing well in the losing effort but the skaters squandered a golden opportunity gifted to them by their goalie.

October 25th: Belleville Senators @ Lehigh Valley Phantoms(2-0 L)

It was the team’s third road game in three days, and it was painfully clear from the drop of the puck, with Belleville sluggish and slow to pucks. Several of the penalties in the second period were the result of tired players getting beaten to pucks or beaten cleanly by opposing puck carriers. Kevin Reidler made his season debut, playing a solid game, stopping 21 of the 23 shots he faced. Unfortunately, Belleville couldn’t muster any offense despite some good chances from Tyler Boucher and Xavier Bourgault. Defensively, Kasper Halttunen was effective in breaking up a couple of the Phantom’s rushes, as was Matthew Andonovski, who was a strong physical presence and cleared the net in front of Reidler throughout the night. After the game, the BSens headed home for a much deserved rest.

October 30th: Belleville Senators vs. Hartford Wolf Pack(4-1 L)

Another game that looks way more lopsided than it was, thanks to a pair of Hartford empty net goals late in the third as Belleville tried to mount a comeback. After a couple of games where he wasn’t noticeable, Kasper Halttunen came out of the gate with rockets on his skates against the Wolf Pack. He had two thirds of a Gordie How Hat-Trick 16 minutes into the game, scoring a beautiful goal and getting into a fight before the first period was over. He had a fifth of Belleville’s total shots by himself, which both speaks to his greatness in this game as well as the lack of offensive support around him. Notably, this was after Xavier Bourgault and Phil Tomasino were called up to the NHL, leaving Belleville without two of their best offensive forwards. The story of the game was, once again, Jackson Parsons, who put in another spectacular performance, stopping 32 of 34 shots and almost stealing a win.

November 1st: Belleville Senators vs. Toronto Marlies(4-1 W)

In a rare turn of events, the BSens badly outshot their opponent in a game. Toronto was overwhelmed early and often, with Parsons only facing 15 shots all night. Belleville outshot Toronto 12-2 in the first and rarely let up after that. Kasper Halttunen dominated the game, scoring his second hat-trick of the season through 12 games. Halttunen’s three goals came on the powerplay as the unit went 3/6 and operated effortlessly in the Marlies zone. Philippe Daoust had a great game, especially getting the powerplay set up and then finding Halttunen repeatedly. Blake Montgomery was tenacious on the puck and was rewarded with Belleville’s lone even strength goal of the evening. Overall, it was a dominant win for the BSens in a season where those have been rare.

While story of the last two weeks in Ottawa has been the goaltending and how unreliable it has been in the absence of their starter, in Belleville it has been the opposite tale. After a rocky start, Jackson Parsons has found a groove, playing in four games and not posting a save percentage below .919%. Kevin Reidler also played well in his lone AHL appearance. Thus far, their goaltending not been the reason for their mediocre start.

Kasper Halttunen, like many goal scorers, is a streaky player, scoring in bunches. Six of his nine goals have come in two games but he usually impacts the games in which he doesn’t score by contributing on the defensive side of the puck. This is usually in the form of hits or digging for pucks along the boards. He will definitely get his shot in Ottawa this season if he continues playing this well.

SkatersGoalies

Since our last update, the Belleville Senators have played five games, bookended with two wins, and posted a…

[194295
49,48,20739
post-956952","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ottawa","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-ottawa
["GET
