Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter, Vivienne, has officially dropped her father’s last name, making her the fourth child of the former celebrity couple to do so.

The 18-year-old will now be known as Vivienne Marcheline Jolie, instead of Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, according to documents obtained by CBC News.

She initially filed a petition with the Los Angeles County Superior Court to legally drop her father’s last name back in July, shortly after her 18th birthday, with the reason for the change listed as “personal.”

Four of the six now-adult children shared by Jolie and Pitt have changed their names, effectively legally distancing themselves from their father amid ongoing tensions in the wake of the couple’s 2016 split and ensuing legal battle, which included allegations from Jolie that Pitt had been abusive toward her and the children in a 2016 incident.

Pitt was investigated for child abuse at the time and cleared of all wrongdoing.

Vivienne has been using only her mother’s last name for at least two years — she was credited as Vivienne Jolie for her work as a volunteer production assistant on the Broadway show The Outsiders, which her mother co-produced.

Judge Virginia Keeny granted Vivienne’s petition during a hearing on Monday at the Los Angeles Superior Court’s Stanley Mosk Courthouse.

Angelina Jolie poses with her children, from left, Maddox, Vivienne, Zahara, Shiloh and Knox at the premiere for the film Eternals in Los Angeles on Oct. 18, 2021. (Mario Anzuoni/Reuters)

Vivienne, along with her twin brother, Knox, is the youngest of Pitt and Jolie’s children. The others are Maddox, 24; Pax, 22; Zahara, 21; and Shiloh, 20.

Shiloh was the first child to drop the Pitt name in 2024. Zahara and Maddox both filed earlier this year, and had the petitions granted in September.

Jolie and Pitt, once one of the most high-profile couples in Hollywood, married in 2014 after a decade together. Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 and a judge declared them legally single in 2019, but their contentious split wasn’t completely settled until 2024.

The divorce filing came after an alleged incident on a plane in 2016, the details of which were outlined in court documents filed in 2022. Jolie alleged in the filings that Pitt had grabbed Jolie, pushed her, and choked one of their children and struck another when they tried to intervene. A representative for Pitt denied the allegations, and the FBI stated it had conducted a review and was not pursuing further investigation.

Brad Pitt attends the European premiere for F1: The Movie in London on June 23, 2025. (Maja Smiejkowska/Reuters)

While Jolie has appeared frequently with the children on red carpets, Pitt has not been seen in public with any of his children for years.

The 62-year-old actor has not publicly addressed the name changes of his children. In an August interview with Esquire, he alluded to it, saying he had briefly experienced suicidal ideation over “family stuff,” and “didn’t see a way out.”

The six children have largely kept out of the spotlight and avoided speaking about their family or relationships with either parent. Earlier this year, Zahara praised mother Jolie, 51, during a mother-daughter brunch for the Pearls of Purpose Foundation in Atlanta, saying their relationship was a “kindred” one.

Angelina Jolie and Zahara Marley Jolie attend the 82nd Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills on Jan. 5, 2025.
