The AI-generated sci-fi film Gods Don\u2019t Give Gifts<\/a> has added a bit of star power: Pop star Grimes is going to appear in the movie. Billed as \u201cthe first AI film to come to theatres,\u201d Gods Don\u2019t Give Gifts is a notable test case for the commercial potential of AI films, and it releases on December 4th. Grimes \u2014 who will be lending both her likeness and vocal performance to the movie, which you can see in the clip above \u2014 potentially gives the project some legitimacy.<\/p>\n

AI studio Fable, which is producing the film, claimed in a press release that \u201ccasting the likeness of an actor with their spoken vocal performance will become more common with animated films using AI: audiences will see actors, athletes, musicians giving vocal performances with their likeness in films.\u201d Gods Don\u2019t Give Gifts is being directed by Jack London, better known under the online handle Gossip Goblin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gods Don\u2019t Give Gifts is an anthology that\u2019s set in a future \u201cwhere bodies are disposable and consciousness has been commoditized\u201d and depicts what happens when \u201cfour interconnected stories collide with the horrifying consequences of humanity\u2019s attempt to transcend the flesh.\u201d Those themes seem to fit pretty snugly with Grimes\u2019 interests, as she has explored themes of transhumanism and artificial intelligence in the past. It\u2019s also not the only AI project she\u2019s working on, with an AI-themed album called Psy Opera in the works<\/a>.<\/p>\n
