NORMAN \u2013 For the seventh consecutive year, Oklahoma men’s golf has players on the preseason watch list for the Fred Haskins Award, presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate golfer, the Haskins Foundation announced this week.<\/p>\n
Two Sooners \u2013 Ryder Cowan<\/a> and Jase Summy<\/a> \u2013 were named to the 25-player list, making Oklahoma one of just five schools with multiple golfers recognized among the country’s elite.<\/p>\n Now in its 55th year, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel has honored players who have gone on to win 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournaments worldwide. Past recipients include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Justin Thomas, and former Sooner Chris Gotterup, who captured the award in 2022.<\/p>\n Summy, an All-American last season, enters his senior year poised for a historic campaign. The Keller, Texas, native won the Western Amateur this summer, advanced to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur and finished fourth in the Elite Amateur Series. He enters the season ranked fifth in both the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and the PGA Tour University preseason rankings. Last year, Summy earned consensus second-team All-America honors and All-SEC first-team recognition after leading the Sooners with a 70.35 (-0.67) scoring average. He set a program record with 20 rounds in the 60s, producing eight top-20 finishes, seven top-10s, four top-fives and one victory.<\/p>\n Cowan earns his first Haskins watch list selection as he enters his junior season. The Edmond, Okla., product and 2025 All-America honoree played in every event last season, posting a 70.51 (-0.28) scoring average, second best on the team. He recorded 10 top-20 finishes and six top-10 placements while helping Oklahoma win five events and advance to match play at the NCAA Championships for a program-record seventh time since 2016.<\/p>\n The Sooners will begin the 2025-26 season Friday at the Carmel Cup at Spyglass Hill Golf Club in Pebble Beach, California.<\/p>\n Full Preseason Watch List
