Scottie Scheffler’s caddie, Ted Scott, opened up about his recent absence from the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n
The performances of Scottie Scheffler<\/a> and Ted Scott<\/a> have been truly remarkable during the 2025 PGA Tour season, and recent events make their work together \u2014 and apart \u2014 even more impressive.<\/p>\n Scheffler was forced to play without Scott for the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship<\/a> and the entire BMW Championship<\/a> after the caddie had to return home to deal with a family emergency. Scott revealed some of the details about the \u201cdevastating\u201d situation during his weekly \u201cSunday Sermon\u201d ahead of the final round of the Tour Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n Ted Scott Explains Absence from PGA Tour<\/p>\n \u201cMany of you know that I left the St. Jude Classic early and didn\u2019t caddie on Sunday. Why? Because we have a devastating family emergency,\u201d Scott said in a video posted to social media from East Lake Golf Club. \u201cProbably the hardest thing I\u2019ve ever walked through in life.\u201d<\/p>\n Ted Scott addresses his absence due to a family emergency where an injury took place in his new Sunday Sermon.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.\u201d \u2013 Philippians 4:7 <\/p>\n (via IG: @jtedscott<\/a>) pic.twitter.com\/BfWPBIuEIx<\/a>\n<\/p>\n \u2014 TrackingScheffler (@SchefflerLegion) August 24, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n Scott, a deeply religious man, explained that he learned lessons from the experience, while offering a little more insight into the difficult situation.<\/p>\n \u201cFirst of all, we\u2019re helpless,\u201d he added. \u201cI truly can\u2019t help the situation. Watching my family grieve, watching the person injured, it\u2019s just really difficult to go through, and I\u2019m helpless.\u201d<\/p>\n Scott added that his religion helped him \u201cfind peace\u201d with the situation and credited his friends, family and the PGA Tour community for helping him through.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t understand what happened, I can\u2019t understand what\u2019s going on, but I\u2019m starting to find peace,\u201d Scott continued .\u201dSo many of you have reached out to me, so many family members, so many friends on the Tour have supported me so well through this and it\u2019s helping give me peace.\u201d<\/p>\n Scheffler himself offered a little more insight, too, as did the NBC broadcast after he finished his round. Scheffler wore a neon green ribbon on his hat for the final round, apparently in support of Scott\u2019s nephew, Joel.<\/p>\n \u201cJust a little way to show our support back home,\u201d Scheffler said, as seen on the NBC telecast. \u201cTed wanted to come back to work this week. We had some fun out there.\u00a0 \u2026 (The ribbon is) just a little way to Joel to know we\u2019re thinking of him.\u201d<\/p>\n Scheffler\u2019s Success With Fill-Ins<\/p>\n While Scott was absent, Scheffler initially called on PGA Tour chaplain Brad Payne<\/a>, who finished the St. Jude for Scott, making the trip from Dallas to Memphis for the final round. Scheffler, who also used Payne at the 2024 PGA Championship when Scott was home for a day to attend a graduation, shot a 3-under for the final round, to finish tied for third.<\/p>\n Michael Cromie<\/a>, the full-time caddie for Chris Kirk, then filled in for Scott<\/a> at the BMW Championship at Caves Valley.<\/p>\n Scott returned for the Tour Championship, with Scheffler coming in No. 1 in search of back-to-back FedEx Cup wins. Scheffler came in as a heavy favorite.
