\u201cWe formed a syndicate so we didn\u2019t have to compete with each other,\u201d O\u2019Leary told CNBC. <\/p>\n
Allen did most of the research, but convinced O\u2019Leary that the card was a worthwhile purchase. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe bought it together. Yes, we did, and I\u2019m very proud to own it,\u201d O\u2019Leary said. \u201cI\u2019ve been looking at this asset class now for three years.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the rarest pieces of art tend to net \u201cextraordinary capital gains,\u201d according to his research. <\/p>\n
While Allen and Warshaw are \u201ccrazy hobbyists,\u201d O\u2019Leary said he\u2019s the analytical one in the group, noting that extremely rare items such as the Bryant-Jordan card tend to \u201cdefy recessions.\u201d <\/p>\n

The three men stayed up until 3 a.m. Saturday morning, fending off other would-be-buyers in an auction that drew 82 bids. <\/p>\n
While he\u2019s proud to own it, O\u2019Leary said it\u2019s unlikely he\u2019ll spend much time with the card<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cThese cards stay in vaults in perpetuity. I mean, I may handle it once in my life, but it\u2019s an image that is passed around digitally,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n As for when someone else might get a chance to buy it, O\u2019Leary said that could be a very long time. <\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think this piece will come to market again during my lifetime,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a part of an index that I\u2019m going to continue to grow along with my partners. We look at it no different than our Bitcoin holdings, our Ethereum holdings, our gold holdings.\u201d<\/p>\n
