ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A well-known Decatur cycling attorney and advocate died following a bike crash. <\/p>\n
Ken Rosskopf died following a bike ride in which Decatur police said he was trying to make a turn and collided with a car near Ponce de Leon Place. <\/p>\n
Many in the DeKalb County cycling community are mourning the loss of the 85-year-old. <\/p>\n
His son, Joey Rosskopf, who is a professional cyclist, described his father as a legend in the community. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe was always active, huge in the cycling community,\u201d Joey said. \u201cI\u2019ve had childhood friends, cycling friends, I\u2019ve raced for a long time, so former teammates, they\u2019re all reaching out. So it makes you realize how big of an impact he had on everyone\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ken was also a cycling attorney alongside his law partner, attorney Bruce Hagen. He knew a lot about bikes and cycling law. His work included advocating for bike safety and helping out the young riders whenever he could.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat was super important to him,\u201d Joey said. \u201cHe influenced a lot of people along the way, fixing neighborhood bikes for all the kids in the neighborhood when they were little kids, bicycle safety and making it accessible for people.\u201d <\/p>\n
According to police, the crash happened very close to Ken\u2019s home near Clairmont Avenue, a route he took often. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe was always out. Loved a coffee day, a bike ride,\u201d Joey said about his father. \u201cThe more people on bikes, the better. Always supportive of kids and the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Decatur Police said the incident remains under investigation. <\/p>\n
