Graphics tablet and pen display manufacturer Wacom has become the latest Corporate Patron of the Blender Development Fund<\/a>, upgrading from its previous Corporate Gold membership.<\/p>\n The change \u2013 announced as part of a partnership to \u201cdevelop a next-generation Blender experience for Android tablets\u201d \u2013 means an extra \u20ac210,000\/year in funding for Blender.<\/p>\n Wacom now one of the biggest corporate backers of Blender development The extra \u20ac210,000\/year equates roughly to the salaries of three full-time Blender developers.<\/p>\n Wacom becomes one of the largest corporate backers of the open-source 3D software, alongside Epic Games, Qualcomm and VR and XR headset manufacturer Pico.<\/p>\n Part of a partnership to develop a \u2018next-gen Blender experience\u2019 on Android tablets The new editions will feature a reworked user interface designed for use on smaller screens with pen and touch input.<\/p>\n The changes will roll out first on iOS and later on Android \u2013 Wacom\u2019s main area of interest.<\/p>\n The MovinkPad 11<\/a>, Wacom\u2019s new 11-inch Android drawing tablet, is one of the devices namechecked in last month\u2019s Blender Developer blog post<\/a> announcing the tablet editions.<\/p>\n As well as development of a \u201cnext-generation Blender experience for Android tablets\u201d, Wacom says that it support more general \u201coptimization of pen and touch performance\u201d in Blender.<\/p>\n \u201cOur collaboration with Wacom is a major step in making Blender more intuitive on pen and touch devices,\u201d said Francesco Siddi, COO at Blender. <\/p>\n Read Wacom\u2019s announcement of its expanded partnership with Blender<\/a><\/p>\n Visit the Blender Development Fund website<\/a><\/p>\n Have your say on this story by following CG Channel on Facebook<\/a>, Instagram<\/a> and X (formerly Twitter)<\/a>. Wacom was already a Gold sponsor of the Blender Development Fund, but the upgrade to Corporate Patron status is a considerable one, taking its contribution from \u20ac30,000\/year to \u20ac240,000\/year.<\/p>\n
The change is part of an \u201cexpanded partnership\u201d between Wacom and Blender following the Blender Foundation\u2019s announcement of new tablet editions<\/a> of the open-source 3D software.<\/p>\n
