<\/p>\nListen, we love The Young and the Restless, but the lack of onscreen substance in the soap lately\u2026 not so much. The cardinal rule is \u201cshow, don\u2019t tell,\u201d but the show has drifted into an ongoing format that mostly consists of talk. Not only does this negatively impact the daily drama factor, it\u2019s particularly disappointing when plots that would be emotionally impactful play out off screen. Why hide the good stuff?!<\/p>\n
Where\u2019s Mariah?<\/p>\n
Mariah has split from her wife and seemingly believes she committed a murder, but we\u2019ve only seen glimpses of her agony on screen. At this point, it\u2019s been a couple of weeks since we even laid eyes on her. We\u2019re watching Tessa grow closer with Daniel, but no reaction from Mariah.<\/p>\n
Perhaps the writers want Mariah \u201cout of sight, out of mind\u201d so viewers will invest in Tessa and Daniel\u2019s relationship, but this creates a problem because we care about Mariah and what she\u2019s going through. Ignoring her emotional journey creates a disconnect that doesn\u2019t serve the audience or the story. <\/p>\n
Guess what guys, I think the show has officially forgotten about \u201cwhat Mariah did\u201d. lol <\/p>\n
What\u2019s with the constant plot holes?! <\/p>\n

We didn\u2019t even see Abby and Dom! Even those on screen didn\u2019t react appropriately to his death. Billy was all business and Sharon, who once cared deeply for Chance, was written as though she\u2019d hardly known him. <\/p>\n Funeral offscreen. No one is mourning him onscreen. We\u2019re here to laugh, gasp, and cry. To feel. Why is the big emotional stuff being sidelined for \u201cmusical CEOS?\u201d<\/p>\n Chance, Damien, & Cole didn\u2019t get a funeral on screen for 1 reason only. It had nothing to do with business. There is no emotional connection on #YR<\/a> anymore. Now #YR<\/a> doesn\u2019t have a doctor or a cop. Just a bunch of people playing musical CEO chairs.<\/p>\n \u2014 Me, myself, & I (@whoknowstv) August 18, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n Why Should We Care?<\/p>\n Cane Ashby has been off screen for six years and yet the whole show is somehow revolving around him now that he\u2019s returned with a new face. The same is true for his children, who remain off the canvas even though much of the conversation on Young & Restless the past week has centered on their off screen reaction to their father\u2019s deception. It\u2019s a bizarre choice that\u2019s left many questioning the writers\u2019 thought process. <\/p>\n Another day of Cane whining about his kids. Mattie and Charlie are not even on the canvas, and here we are trying to muster up sympathy for them because *checks notes*\u2026 their father became a billionaire? It\u2019s not exactly tugging at our heartstrings.<\/p>\n Adding to the issue is that NuCane\u2019s entire story played out off screen. Therefore, it\u2019s tough to jump back into caring about him, let alone his grand takeover plan. So far, it\u2019s Tucker McCall all over again. Bring on a daytime vet as a recast, plunk them on the front-burner, and have them make vague threats toward all the business types in town without anything ever happening beyond endless talk. We don\u2019t even understand Cane\u2019s endgame, which makes it incredibly difficult to invest. <\/p>\n What would the point to take over every business in town?
