Gaints 3 Jays 6<\/p>\n
We got yet another terrific start from Eric Lauer. Six innings, just two hits, no walks and seven strikeouts. I didn\u2019t think he was a strikeout pitcher, but he\u2019s been getting them. Unfortunately, one of those two hits was a home run by Willy Adams. The other run came on a double and a pair of sac flies. <\/p>\n
He came out of the game after six innings and 81 pitches, with a bunch of right-handers coming up. <\/p>\n
Chad Green pitched the seventh and gave up Willy Adams\u2019 second home run of the game. <\/p>\n
Brendon Little pitched a quick eighth, getting two groundouts and a strikeout.<\/p>\n
Jeff Hoffman pitched the ninth. He gave up a single, but got a strikeout and a double play ball (which was reviewed, but the call on the field stood; I thought he was safe, watching the replay). Save number 23 for Hoffman. <\/p>\n
On offense, we had our chances against Logan Webb early. We had two out and no outs in the first, but Vlad hit into a double play and Bo popped out to right.<\/p>\n
In the second, the first two batters, Addison Barger and Joey Loperfido, each singled, but John decided to bunt with Ernie Clement. Bunting in the second inning is a particular brand of stupid, but Ernie put down a nice bunt. Unfortunately, Will Wagner struck out. Tyler Heineman was hit by pitch, but Nathan Lukes ground out. <\/p>\n
In the third, Vlad had a one-out single but was erased on Bo\u2019s double-play ball. And in the fourth, Barger started the inning with a single, but we couldn\u2019t score him.<\/p>\n
But we got four runs in the sixth:<\/p>\n
Bo singled.
\nBarger doubled him to third.
\nLoperfido popped out.
\nClements singled in one.
\nWill Wagner doubled in two.
\nHeineman doubled in our fourth run.<\/p>\n
And two in the eighth:<\/p>\n
Wagner singled with one out.
\nHeineman homered. <\/p>\n
We had 14 hits (10 more than the Giants). Barger had 4 hits. Wagner and Heineman had two. Everyone in the Jays’ starting order had a hit. <\/p>\n
Our pitchers were helped out by a pair of terrific catches by Vlad Guerrero. <\/p>\n

And then in the seventh, he grabbed a popup just before it hit the netting:<\/p>\n
Jays of the Day: Barger (.260 WPA, 4 for 4), Heineman (.179, 2 for 3, 3 RBI), Wagner (.141, 2 for 4, 2 RBI) and Little (.119), Honourable mention to Lauer.<\/p>\n
Other Award: Vlad had the number (-.127), but he also had the two great catches, so a close call on whether he earned the Award. <\/p>\n
Tomorrow we have an early game: 12:00 Eastern. Robbie Ray (9-3, 2.65) vs Jose Berrios (5-4, 3.75).
