{"id":9994,"date":"2025-07-20T07:39:07","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T07:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/9994\/"},"modified":"2025-07-20T07:39:07","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T07:39:07","slug":"manny-pacquiao-mario-barrios-fight-to-majority-draw-boxing-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/9994\/","title":{"rendered":"Manny Pacquiao, Mario Barrios fight to majority draw | Boxing News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">The 46-year old\u2019s comeback bid for 13th world title falls short with a draw against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios.<\/p>\n<p>Manny Pacquiao\u2019s bid to become the oldest welterweight champion in boxing history fell short as he failed to beat Mario Barrios at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p>But he did not lose, either.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the 46-year-old Pacquiao and the 30-year-old Barrios fought to a majority draw on Saturday, with one judge giving Barrios a 115-113 win and the other two judges scoring it a 114-114 draw.<\/p>\n<p>The result allowed Barrios (29-2-2, 18 knockouts) to retain his WBC welterweight belt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought I won the fight,\u201d Pacquiao said afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, it was a close fight. My opponent was very tough. It was a wonderful fight. It was good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs) already holds the record for the oldest welterweight champion, winning the belt via split-decision over Keith Thurman in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The Filipino legend was enshrined in the International Boxing Hall of Fame last month. Pacquiao dominated Saturday\u2019s fight early on, showing energy against his younger foe.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, though, CompuBox stats had Barrios landing more punches (120-101) and more jabs (45-20), though Pacquiao landed 81 power punches to Barrios\u2019s 75.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-arc-image-770 wp-image-3847282\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/AFP__20250720__2226083466__v1__HighRes__MannyPacquiaoVMarioBarrios-1752995290.jpg\" alt=\"Mario Barrios (R) throws a right at Manny Pacquiao.\" fetchpriority=\"low\"\/>Barrios, right, throws a right at Pacquiao in the third round [Ethan Miller\/Getty Images via AFP]<\/p>\n<p>Pacquiao held the lead on all three cards after 10 rounds, but Barrios took all three rounds on all three scorecards to avoid the upset. Age and stamina were definitely on Pacquiao\u2019s mind after the fight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need to continue my training for longer going into a championship fight,\u201d said Pacquiao, who lost his senatorial bid in the Philippines in May. \u201cBecause of the election, I started late, but it\u2019s OK. Of course, I\u2019d like a rematch. I want to leave a legacy and make the Filipino people proud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t tell that to Barrios.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis stamina is crazy,\u201d the champion said. \u201cHe\u2019s still strong as hell, and his timing is real. He\u2019s still a very awkward fighter to try to figure out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for a rematch, Barrios is ready.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll do the rematch. Absolutely. This was huge for boxing.
