Theo James has been busy over the last year with his role in The Gentlemen series for Guy Ritchie and the hit horror movie The Monkey, but over 10 years ago, he spearheaded a massive sci-fi movie that’s returned to free streaming charts in America. James stars alongside Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley in Divergent, the 2014 dystopian sci-fi film set in a world divided by factions based on virtues, but there are “divergents” who don’t fit into the new societal norms. Divergent recently began streaming for free on Pluto TV in America, and it’s already one of the top 10 most popular movies on the platform.
Divergent was not particularly well-liked by critics upon release, which led to it earning a 41% score on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. The sci-fi film did hit home with fans, though. It sits at a much more respectable 69% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. As many big sci-fi films often do, Divergent made a fortune at the box office. It cost Summit Entertainment and Red Wagon Entertainment around $85 million to make the film, but it grossed nearly $300 million at the global box office. Ray Stevenson and Jai Courtney can also be seen in Divergent.
Divergent is based on the novel of the same name by Veronica Roth, and Evan Daugherty wrote the script for the film with Vanessa Taylor. Theo James and Shailene Woodley also returned for two sequels. Neil Burger directed the sci-fi picture. Burger recently directed several episodes of The Agency, the Showtime original spy thriller series starring Michael Fassbender and Jeffrey Wright. Three years before Divergent, he even teamed with Bradley Cooper to direct another sci-fi thriller, Limitless, which is currently streaming on Paramount+ and Prime Video.
When Does ‘The Gentlemen’ Season 2 Come Out?
Netflix has yet to officially announce when the second season of Theo James’ The Gentlemen will be released, but the show recently got a massive update. Just earlier this week, it was confirmed that production wrapped on Season 2, which is expected to air sometime in 2026. The series hails from acclaimed action/crime writer/director Guy Ritchie, and it’s even set in the same universe as his 2019 movie of the same name starring Matthew McConaughey. In addition to writing and creating the show, Ritchie also directed several episodes in Season 1, and he’s expected to do the same in Season 2.
Check out Divergent now streaming for free on Pluto TV and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
