Costars Kristen Bell and Adam Brody share an irreverent sense of humor.

Years before playing romantic interests Joanne and Noah on the Netflix romantic comedy series “Nobody Wants This,” Bell and Brody had a sex scene on season 2 of Showtime’s “House of Lies.”

During a Thursday, Oct. 23, appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Bell revealed her and Brody’s off-color running joke about the scene.

“I was eight and a half months pregnant and we were blurring it out. Adam affectionately refers to it as ‘our threesome,’” Bell said. “Which I do not want my daughter to hear!”

The “Veronica Mars” alum shares daughters Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10, with husband Dax Shepard. Bell raised eyebrows earlier this week by sharing another joke, this one made by her husband.

“Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would,’” Bell wrote via Instagram.

Some people took Shepard’s remarks as a red flag or as making light of domestic violence. Bell’s comments section soon flooded with responses like, “Crazy thing to joke about honestly. Sincerely, someone who thankfully survived.”

Another person chimed in: “Not funny at all. What kind of man says that to his wife? Oh wait, I know exactly what kind. Get out now, Kristen.”

However, many of Bell’s followers came to her defense, including a “survivor of domestic violence” who found the “post in no way offensive.”

“It’s adorable and a display of a goofy and loving relationship. Our triggers are not their problem to tiptoe around,” the commenter continued. “HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO THE REALEST AND CUTEST COUPLE IN HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!!”

Bell has not addressed the backlash as she promotes season 2 of “Nobody Wants This,” which hit Netflix on Thursday. Brody’s real-life wife, Leighton Meester, joined the cast for the new season, playing the middle school nemesis of Bell’s character.

While Bell and Brody are both married to other people, their onscreen chemistry is electric.

“[Brody] brings something weird and and awkward and funny and wonderful and unexpected to every scene, which I really enjoy, but I also trust him completely,” Bell told Kelly Clarkson of their bond. “So, to be honest, when I was [really] pregnant and had to, like, mount him, I was just like, ‘Well, morning!’ He made everything very safe and comfortable.”

Bell also compared her dynamic with Brody to a “sibling relationship.”

“We get along really well, but we also argue like crazy,” she shared.

“Nobody Wants This” is available to stream on Netflix.
