In the latest of our Vintage Veteran series, we talk to Limerick wonder woman on overcoming ‘no dressing room, no toilets, no pitches’ during her astonishing 50-year career in camogie and football

Pauline McCarthy from Limerick, who still plays camogie and football in her 60s for St Ailbe’s, is preparing for today’s Limerick junior ‘A’ camogie final against Mungret St Paul’s.
Pauline McCarthy would prefer to be anywhere but the national spotlight but when you’re still doing your thing on the pitch at the age of 66, there’s bound to be a bit of a hullabaloo about you.
McCarthy made her senior debut at club level at 14 – as well as her first senior camogie appearance for Limerick – and here she is still going strong in both codes over half a century later, even if she doesn’t get all of the fuss.
