PN leader, Alex Borg, has unveiled plans to establish a new mental health hospital and enhance local mental health services across Malta.

The proposal, presented as part of the party’s commitment to improving healthcare, aims to provide more accessible and comprehensive support for those facing mental health challenges.

According to the PN, the initiative will focus on integrating community-based services with hospital care, ensuring patients can receive treatment closer to home while maintaining access to specialist support when needed. The party stressed that investment in mental health infrastructure is critical, highlighting the growing demand for mental health services nationwide.

The proposed hospital would feature state-of-the-art facilities, alongside outpatient and rehabilitation services, with a strong emphasis on patient-centred care. PN officials also called for increased funding for existing mental health programs and the recruitment of additional professionals to strengthen support networks.

By combining a dedicated hospital with enhanced local services, the PN says it hopes to reduce waiting times, improve early intervention, and provide a more holistic approach to mental healthcare in Malta.
