EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – People got to experience spooky trails and scary fun outside the Evansville State Hospital Saturday.
Hospital staff were raising money to help people with mental health issues at its first Public Phantom Trail event.
Organizers say the money raised will go to Peace Zone, a peer-run mental health recovery center, and the hospital’s patient recreation fund.
The walking trail included zombies playing a very slow game of base-ball, mutant fish and a bicycle loving gorilla, all to bring awareness to mental health.
Co-chair of the Phantom Trail Planning Committee Elisa Phillips says, “It’s something that we everyone deals with to varying degrees and it’s important to know effective coping skills. We just want to the public to learn more about and be mindful of and just provide education so there’s less stigma and more positivity.“
Organizers say they were excited so many community members showed up for their inaugural event.
They plan to bring it back next year and hope to see thousands attend.
