Scream 7 fans reckon that the movie’s new trailer may have accidentally spoiled who the killer is. The preview of the next horror installment dropped online yesterday.
In it, viewers were given a first look at Neve Campbell’s return as Sidney Prescott as she faces a new Ghostface alongside her daughter Tatum (Isabel May).
However, one eagle-eyed fan spotted a brief moment in the clip featuring McKenna Grace’s character wearing a blue and green tartan skirt. The link? It’s a pattern seen on previous killers in the franchise such as Billy Loomis and Richie Kirsch.

“Mckenna Grace, that’s a very unique color pattern my friend,” the fan wrote on X.
While it could be a spoiler, a few fans suggested the supposed Easter egg may be a trick on the part of the filmmakers, one writing: “I fear she maybe a red [herring]!!”, while another added: “Hopefully a misdirect.”

Meanwhile, the seventh movie is set to bring back David Arquette’s Dewey, Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher and Scott Foley’s Roman Bridger – despite all the characters being dead – alongside Campbell and Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers.
Speaking earlier this year about Sidney’s return, co-writer Guy Busick told ComicBook.com: “I don’t want to give anything away about the reason [Scream 7] had to be a Sidney movie because there’s a really cool reason.
“In all these movies, you have to ask, ‘Why now? What is the thing Scream is commenting on now?’ Scream is always in a conversation with the audience about the state of movies, the state of horror movies and in particular, franchises.”

He added: “There is a really specific reason why Sidney is in this movie. I will say there is a reason and we were happy with it when we cracked it.”
The return comes after the exits of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega as Sam and Tara Carpenter, while original director Christopher Landon also departed.
“They wanted me to continue on,” Landon explained of his exit to Vanity Fair earlier this year. “They basically said, ‘You can restart it. You can figure it out’. But the amount of abuse that I had to deal with – I decided I didn’t want to give any part of myself to that.”
Scream 7 is released in cinemas on 27 February 2026.
