Two brothers were arrested and charged today with carrying out an aggravated burglary at a house in Mayfield last May.
Detective Garda Craig Peterson arrested Alan McCarthy, aged 36, of 1 Spring Lane halting site, Ballyvolane Rd, Cork, and Kieran McCarthy, aged 40, of 155 Ard Bhaile, Mayfield, Cork, and brought them before Cork District Court.
Both are charged with three similar counts. They are charged with burglary while armed with a weapon, causing criminal damage to the property at 25 Glencree Crescent, Mayfield, namely the front door, and having a weapon intending to cause injury, incapacitate or intimidate.
The weapon referred to in Alan McCarthy’s case was a hammer, and in Kieran McCarthy’s case, an axe.
Sergeant John Kelleher said the Director of Public Prosecutions directed that the case should be dealt with by indictment.
A copy of the memo of interviews and a precis of the evidence is to be sent to the defence to decide on whether a book of evidence would be required or if they would be signing pleas of guilty at the district court for sentencing at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
Judge Mary Dorgan adjourned the cases until September 16 and the two brothers were remanded on bail on condition that they would have no contact with injured parties or witnesses in the case.
