Uisce Éireann have issued an appeal to customers in Clones and the surrounding areas to conserve water.
They are asking people in the area to be mindful of their water usage and to make all efforts to conserve water where possible.
Levels at local water sources, including Corconnelly Lough, remain extremely low after a prolonged period of lower-than-average rainfall. Met Éireann data taken from the nearby Ballyhaise Weather Station shows that combined rainfall over the past 14 months has been 937mm which is 22% lower than the 14 month average.
As a result, customers in Clones and the surrounding areas are again being asked to reduce their usage where possible to allow levels in local water sources to recharge.
Uisce Éireann is exploring options to supplement local supplies from new sources. These emergency exploration works are ongoing but in the meantime, customers are asked to be mindful of their usage.
