Donegal Deputy Charles Ward is calling on government to step in as Fastway Couriers staff go unpaid for work done before the shock receivership announcement.
Last Wednesday, it was announced that the parent company of Fastway Couriers, the Nuvion Group, went into receivership.
Donegal drivers only found out that their employment was ending when the news broke on Tuesday afternoon.
Couriers have not been paid for the last two/four weeks’ work.
Deputy Ward has said that the treatment of Fastway Couriers drivers in the past week has been a ‘disgrace’.
With couriers, now left without income coming into the Christmas season, Deputy Ward said that it is “outrageous that workers have been treated in this way, and that the way the situation has been handled is completely unacceptable.”
The 100% Redress Party TD said: ‘It is particularly shocking that the workers won’t be paid for work that was done in the last couple of weeks, that they were told they could not accept another job for 30 days, and that they might have to wait until February before they receive redundancy payments.’
Deputy Ward said that he fully supports the Fastway Courier drivers in their fight for fair treatment and remuneration.
He said: “I stand in solidarity with the workers and the protesters, and I will be calling on the government to intervene as a matter of urgency.”
