A Fahan woman has been introduced as Donegal’s newest practising solicitor.
Ms Nikita McGrath was formally introduced by barrister Mr Peter Nolan BL at Tuesday’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court.
Ms McGrath, a former student at Crana College in Buncrana, pursued legal studies at ATU, where she obtained her LLB in Law in 2012.
Following her graduation, Ms McGrath amassed over a decade of valuable experience working in legal offences, where she developed a strong foundation in practical legal work and client advocacy.
Ms McGrath began professional training at Blackhall Place in January, 2023 and, having successfully completed the requirements, she qualified as a solicitor in March, 2025 and now practises with Patrick J Sweeney Solicitors.
“She is a very diligent, hard-working young lady,” Mr Nolan said. “I see a great future for her in the profession.
“I have no doubt that she will shine and I wish her every success and congratulations.”
Ms McGrath’s parents, Christine and John, her sister Abbie and grandmother Anne Deeney were all present in court.
Mr Nolan added: “It is a very proud day for her family and I have no doubt that she will be an asset to the legal profession.”
Judge Emile Daly congratulated Ms McGrath and welcomed her family to the court.
“I wish you the very best in your career in this district,” Judge Daly said. “You are surrounded by very able and experienced practitioners to give you all the support that you need to represent clients. You will have the assurance of all your practitioner colleagues.”
On behalf of An Garda Síochána, Sergeant Jim Collins welcomed Ms McGrath and said he was looking forward to working with her “as closely as we can given that I am on the bright side and she is on the dark side!”
Ms McGrath thanked those who welcomed her for their kind words and added: “I’m looking forward to working with you all.”
