Dance Moms was quite the uncomfortable TV show. With degrading dance teacher Abby Lee Miller in charge, she never took it easy on her young students. Years later, some of the disturbing scenes that made it to air are still hard to watch.
One cast member who experienced these moments firsthand is Nia Sioux. Season after season, she dealt with Abby’s remarks about her dance skills. And now, in her memoir Bottom of the Pyramid, she is calling her former teacher out for her alleged words that had nothing to do with her dancing, but had everything to do with her race.

In her new book, Nia accuses Abby of making racist comments to her while she was on the show.
“She would say, ‘Well, you know your people have flat feet.’ This struck me as ignorant; I know plenty of Black dancers with perfectly arched feet,” she penned per Page Six.
The former reality TV star also recalled a question Abby apparently asked that she’ll never forget.
“Don’t you just wish you had white-girl hair? I was taken aback by her question, but I responded, ‘No,’. ‘‘Oh really?’ she said. ‘Like you don’t think it would be much easier?’ Again, I told her no. It didn’t matter what she said — I knew I didn’t want to be white.”
Abby hasn’t addressed these allegations just yet. But, it’s not like she’s a stranger to making controversial remarks. In a podcast a few years ago, she claimed that had a thing for high school players. And no, she didn’t seem to be joking. It caused so much of a stir that an upcoming event of hers at a high school was cancelled.
Dance Moms is available to stream on Lifetime.
