A new comet has been discovered speeding through the solar system between the Earth and interstellar interloper 3I/ATLAS. Currently the icy rock’s position is in the constellation of Virgo with an observed magnitude (COBS – Comet Observers Database) of 13.8 and a coma diameter (COBS) of 2.3’. The comet will make its closest approach to Earth on November 11, 2025, at a distance of 103,119,940 kilometers or 0.68 AU. Its perihelion is estimated on the 16th of this month.

The apparent lack of a tail is a bit more hyped up on social media with the recent buzz of 3I/ATLAS and the conspiracy theories of the objects being an alien mothership with probes for sinister mission. The newly spotted comet is not an interstellar object but rather one of the cometary rocks from the Oort clouds.
