One of the busiest McDonald’s in Cork has reopened following a major, multi-million-euro refurbishment. The fast-food chain invested €3 million into its Douglas restaurant, which has been open since 1989. It was closed for a number of weeks for remodelling and upgrade works.

The refurb will create 30 new jobs over the coming weeks, bringing the total number of employees to more than 130. It is part of McDonald’s newest restaurant upgrade programme, as the brand invests in locations across Ireland and the UK.

Changes to the Douglas restaurant include a new kitchen design with a bigger order assembly area to deliver a faster and more efficient experience, a remodelled dining area, refurbished customer toilets, a separate McDelivery room and an expanded drive-thru lane.

McDonald’s Douglas is one of the busiest in the city, and the drive-thru is the only one in Cork that is open 24/7. While the fast food spot was closed for refurbishment works, there were big queues at nearby drive-thrus, including McDonald’s in Turners Cross. The reopened McDonald’s Douglas is open from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and the Drive-Thru is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

McDonald’s Douglas is owned and operated by Franchisee Jim Ronayne, who also manages other restaurants across Cork, including busy McDonald’s locations on the Commons Road, in Blackpool, Turners Cross, Mallow, and in Clonmel in Tipperary.

Jim Ronayne said: “We’re thrilled to welcome customers back to our newly refurbished McDonald’s Douglas restaurant. Following an intensive refurbishment of our restaurant, we are excited for our loyal guests to experience the upgrades firsthand. The enhancements to McDonald’s Douglas are designed to deliver a faster, more seamless and more convenient experience for everyone who walks through our doors.”

The upgraded Douglas McDonald’s design features additional kitchen capacity, enabling the crew to process more orders and serve customers more quickly than ever before. Improvements have also been made to the crew member room to create a more relaxing and comfortable space for employees.
