Jim Finucane will be remembered as a loving family man, a caring relative and an outstanding public representative.
The funeral of the former Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council took place today, and was attended by Tanasite Simon Harris, MEP Sean Kelly, Minister Norma Foley, Mayor of Tralee Terry O’Brien and Cathaoirleach Kerry County Council Michael Foley among others.
Those in attendance also included staff from Kerry County Council and Kerry ETB.
The Ukranian ambassador to Ireland Larysa Gerasko and the Ukranian community in Kerry attended the service, paying tribute to the late honorary consul of Ukraine for the south west region.
At the beginning of the Requiem Mass gifts were brought to the altar, including heather from Mr Finucane’s garden, a family photograph and the Ukranian flag.
In the homily, Fr John Ahern from Firies paid tribute to the importance of community concern in Mr Finucane’s life:
Mr Finucane’s daughters Orla and Jill spoke following the mass, describing their father as a political maverick who never fit into a particular box.
Members of Kerry County Council and Fine Gael formed a guard of honour after the Requiem Mass
