Bad Company inducted by Mick Fleetwood; drummer Simon Kirke joined by Joe Perry, Bryan Adams, Chris Robinson
Mikael: Mick Fleetwood is here to induct Bad Company, and he’s laying out how the rock supergroup came together with members of Free and King Crimson. He hails Paul Rodgers’ “once-in-a-lifetime voice,” which makes it too bad that Rodgers himself isn’t here tonight to accept the honor. He’s said he couldn’t make it as a result of some health issues.
Vanessa: It’s such a bummer because Rodgers is legit one of the most underrated vocalists in rock. Watching this video package, you forget how many bangers Bad Company has. My favorite jam is “Oh, Atlanta,” (different than the Little Feat track of the same name) — but “Shooting Star,” “Movin’ On,” “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love,” when they come on the radio I’m cranking it up.
M.W.: To play Bad Company’s tunes with drummer Simon Kirke, we’ve got Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes, Heart’s Nancy Wilson and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry.
Oh, and now Bryan Adams is here to belt “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love.” I’m with you, Vanessa: a banger for sure
V.F.: OK, where can I sign up for Bad Company karaoke night with Bryan Adams? He’s killing it.
M.W.: Bryan Adams is another underrated rocker, now that I think about it.
V.F.: I wholeheartedly agree.
M.W.: Can someone lift Simon Kirke’s microphone? “I’m feeling like the Hunchback of Notre Dame,” he says as he stoops over to accept Bad Company’s induction.
V.F.: Love that Simon Kirke is giving a shoutout to the Bad Company wives!
M.W.: “The Bad Company wives” is a great phrase.
V.F.: I’m glad we’re getting Paul Rodgers in video form at the very least — and even a short Little Richard tribute!
M.W.: It’s easy to goof on an institution like the Rock Hall, but I’ll admit that it can be pretty moving when you see how much the honor means to a musician. That seemed to be the case with Rodgers and Kirke.
