A woman in her 80s has died at the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Tipperary in the early hours of this morning.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident in Toomevara, Nenagh, that occurred sometime between 12 midnight and 2.20am.

“The sole occupant of the car, a woman in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” a Garda spokesperson said.

The Coroner was notified and the woman’s body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The road remains closed at the scene, which is preserved pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Traffic diversions are also in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.
