Report: Broadband access market up 7% as fibre & FWA gain

According to a report from Dell’Oro Group, a source for market information about the telecommunications, security, networks and data centre industries, total global revenue for the Broadband access equipment market increased to $4.7 billion (€4bn) in Q2 2025, up 7 per cent Q/Q and 1 per cent Y/Y. Despite the high level of macroeconomic uncertainty, fibre and fixed wireless providers remained focused on expanding their subscriber numbers at the expense of cable operators.

“Fibre and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) providers continue to move aggressively to steal away valuable broadband subscribers from incumbent cable operators, which is being reflected in their equipment spending trending in completely opposite directions,” commented Jeff Heynen, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group. “As a percentage of total broadband equipment spending worldwide, spending on DOCSIS infrastructure and CPE has reached its lowest levels since Dell’Oro began tracking the segment in 1998.”

Additional highlights from the report:

Spending on 5G Fixed Wireless CPE reached another record high this quarter, as operators in the US, India, and a growing list of markets continue to expand their FWA subscribers.
Spending on DOCSIS infrastructure declined 13 per cent Y/Y, due to continued softness in spending on Remote PHY Devices (RPDs), as well as a slowdown in new vCMTS licence purchases.
