Gardai in Inishowen arrested a drug-driver and a passenger after they drove through a Garda checkpoint in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Gardai from the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit & Buncrana Garda Station were operating an Operation Thor checkpoint on a rural border road when they signalled for a vehicle to stop.

The driver failed to stop but instead drove the car through the checkpoint at speed.

Gardai deployed their stinger device and the driver brought their vehicle to an abrupt halt before their tyres were stung.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after testing positive for cocaine at the scene.

A passenger in the car was found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected cocaine.

Gardai say that court proceedings will follow for both driver and passenger.

“Never take unnecessary risks on the roads. Never drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” said a spokesperson.
