Doughtys Wilkinstown, a family-owned local MACE store and Texaco service station in North Meath has been crowned the Overall Business of the Year at the 2025 Meath Business & Tourism Awards with Killeen Castle celebrating being crowned Overall Tourism Business.

Over 260 guests attended the glittering ceremony in Trim Castle Hotel with 40 companies and organisations vying for 12 category awards and the top two ‘Overall’ Awards.

The highlight of the Royal county business and social calendar was hosted by Meath Chronicle in partnership with Meath County Council and Discover Boyne Valley Tourism and was MC’d by RTE broadcaster and Rath Chairn native, Blathniad Bi Chofaigh.

Established in 2006 by Brendan and Eimear Doughty, Doughtys has become part of the fabric of life in the community of Wilkinstown and surrounding areas providing a wide grocery range, Keith’s Meats in-store butchery, an off-licence, much loved real dairy whipped ice-cream.

The exciting addition of the Park Beo Greenway Hub, opening up new tourist and leisure amenity opening up access and facilities to visitors on the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway has been a massive boost to the business which has grown steadily from 17 to 65.

A stunned Eimear Doughty was joined onstage by her family and staff members to accept the Overall Business Award having earlier won the Excellence in Retail category and said she was “overwhelmed” to have won.

Killeen Castle were equally delighted to be crowned Overall Tourism Award Winner having scooped the Best Tourism Event or Experience category prize earlier in the evening.

Other notable winners on the night included Moylagh JFK Community Car in the Not For Profit category sponsiored by Sheridan Insurances

And An Gobha, Tom King, Blacksmith of Bohermeen was also recognised with a surprise Special Tourism Ambassador Award by Meath County Council’s Darragh McGowan for his outstanding work and even sang a song on stage to celebrate.
