A new upscale kosher restaurant is set to open this week in the Monsey area, introducing a French-inspired fine dining concept created by the teams behind Primavera Kosher and Churrasko Grillhouse. Montpellier is led by Executive Chef Michel Abramson, whose approach focuses on high-quality ingredients, refined technique, and plated dishes that go beyond the traditional steakhouse model commonly found in the region.
A New Direction for a Familiar Space
Montpellier is opening inside the former Dolcetto location, a fully built restaurant space that allowed the team to move quickly once Dolcetto closed. With Monsey already home to multiple steakhouses, the partners wanted to shift the dining experience toward something different. The goal was to create a restaurant with elevated presentation, French-leaning flavors, and a menu that highlights skillful preparation.
The team saw an opportunity to take over the space before someone else moved in. By acquiring an already functional restaurant, they were able to focus their efforts on transforming the concept, building a new menu, and establishing a fine dining identity rather than starting from scratch.
The Menu
Montpellier’s menu blends French-inspired restaurant dishes with a selection of prime steaks, offering both elevated plating and familiar options. Starters include French onion soup, roasted marrow, and tartare-style preparations, each reflecting the kitchen’s emphasis on technique. Seasonal vegetables, composed salads, and fish dishes help round out the early part of the menu.
Entrées feature a full range of high-quality prime beef cuts, including ribeye and filet, prepared with careful attention to detail. While the team wanted to introduce more French-focused cuisine, they also recognized that local diners continue to demand steakhouse offerings, so those remain part of the menu. Additional dishes include veal Milanese, slow-cooked meats, and plates served with reductions, vegetables, and house-made sauces.
Side dishes such as pommes purée, sautéed greens, and roasted vegetables support the French-leaning menu. Desserts continue the theme, focusing on classic flavors and traditional preparation.
Behind the Concept
Chef Michel Abramson brings extensive culinary experience and is central to the development of Montpellier’s culinary identity. All dishes will be prepared in house, and the restaurant is using only prime quality meat. The partnership between Primavera Kosher and Churrasko Grillhouse blends operational experience with a clear vision for a refined dining concept in the Monsey area.
The restaurant will begin with a soft opening toward the end of the week, allowing the team to ease into service before expanding to regular seating the following week.
