Ireland have booked their place in the World Cup play-offs after an incredible 3-2 victory over Hungary in Budapest.

Troy Parrott was the hero once again as he scored a hat-trick, with the third goal coming in added time at the Puskas Arena as the Boys in Green came from behind to beat Hungary. The result means Ireland finished second in Group F, with Portugal topping it following their 9-1 win over Armenia.

Here is what you need to know about the World Cup play-offs:

What date is the World Cup play-off draw?

The World Cup play-off draw will take place on Thursday, November 20.

What time is the draw?

The draw is scheduled to be made at 12pm Irish time.

What is the draw procedure?

The play-offs will consist of the 12 European teams who finished second in the group stages, along with four teams from the Nations League that didn’t make the top two in their World Cup qualifying group. These 16 teams will then be split into semi-finals and finals, divided across four pots.

Ireland look likely to be in either Pot 2 or 3 depending on which other teams qualify for the playoffs. The teams in Pot 1 will play teams in Pot 4, which is made up of the teams that qualified for the play-offs via the Nations League. Those in Pot 2 will be at home to teams from Pot 3.

When are the play-offs?

The playoffs take place next March, with the semi-finals due to be played on March 26 and the finals five days later on March 31.

Which countries could Ireland face?

Italy, Turkey, Poland and Ukraine are likely to be the teams in Pot 1, meaning they could face Northern Ireland, Sweden, Romania or North Macedonia. Wales, Slovakia, Scotland, Czechia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and Kosovo could all be potential opponents for Ireland, but this will not be confirmed until all qualifying groups are played to a conclusion.
