Ant and Dec have spoken out following their shock defeat at the National Television Awards, after missing out to the Best Presenter award for the first time in 24 years.

A video of the beloved duo was posted to their official Instagram account this morning, as they celebrated the win for I’m a Celebrity in the Reality Competition category as well as offering a heartfelt congratulations to Gary Lineker, who broke their personal presenting 23-year winning streak.

Speaking from South Africa, where the pair are currently filming the next series of I’m a Celeb’s All Stars spinoff, Dec said: “We just wanted to jump on here and say a huge, huge thank you to everybody who voted for I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here last night.”

“Also thank you to everyone who voted for us for the Best Presenter category, even though we couldn’t get it across the line this year,” Ant added, before joking: “We were beaten by an up-and-coming new guy, 64-year-old whippersnapper, Gary Lineker.”

They called the former Match of the Day presenter’s win “well deserved”, and Ant and Dec praised his “lovely speech” at the ceremony.

When his win was announced during the National Television Awards on Wednesday evening, which was televised on ITV, Gary seemed genuinely surprised to have received what he called the “the Ant and Dec trophy”.
