The future of a sci-fi remake carrying a 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes is now in doubt following the closure of one of its core studios. There are many sci-fi TV shows, from Apple TV+ originals to those found on Netflix and HBO Max, that have become popular on streaming in recent years. They’ve become a staple of streaming.

Many have also earned high praise and anticipation, from the high sci-fi of the upcoming For All Mankind season 5, to the lighter tinges found in grounded shows like Severance. The genre is ripe for stories that could potentially last multiple seasons across their stretches. However, one recent streaming success may come to a premature end after a studio closure.

Nautilus Season 2 May Be In Jeopardy After Studio Shutdown

Despite becoming a streaming success over the summer, Nautilus‘ future is now uncertain following one of its production studios shutting down. The series acts as a reimagining of Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, offering an original story about Captain Nemo escaping enslavement from the British East India Mercantile Company. The show received positive reviews and success on AMC+.

Now, Deadline reports that Nautilus season 2 is now uncertain following the closure of Seven Stories, one of the two production companies behind the show. The studio has been closed by All3Media Limited after having initially launched with their backing in 2015. This makes the future of ongoing projects under their umbrella, like Nautilus, unknown.

What Seven Stories Closing Its Doors Means For Nautilus

Despite reviews for Nautilus being positive, the show still hasn’t been renewed for season 2. Initially, the series was conceived for Disney+ before it was pulled from its release lineup during a streaming content reassessment. It later aired on Prime Video UK in October 2024 and aired week-to-week on AMC and AMC+ in the US starting in June 2025.

Seven Stories co-produced the show alongside Moonriver TV. While this means the show could still continue because of the other production company’s involvement, the shuttering studio had the backing of a much larger organization. This makes it difficult to ascertain if the characters in Nautilus will be coming back for another adventure, or if the show will be quietly cancelled.

However, the sci-fi series now holds international interest because of its success on AMC+ and airing on Prime Video UK. This makes it more likely Nautilus could return, though there’s no telling what parties would back its production without Seven Stories involved. For now, the show’s fate remains in limbo despite how popular it had grown upon global release.
