AUGUTSA CO., Va. (WHSV) – This week the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office announced the release of a new mobile app as a way of providing county wide information to residents.
Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith said that launching this app has been a goal of his for a while now.
The newly released app, has several features including:
Crime alertsMost WantedPress releasesSchool and SRO Directory, Weather alertsAccess to VDOT’s traffic alert platform
Another feature on the app is the ability to submit tips to report problems in the area, and to share any other information directly to ACSO.
“We are still going to continue to use our social media platforms and stuff but this app gives county citizen the ability to push on the button and have the information at their fingertips,” Smith said.
Sheriff Smith added that staff want to make sure they are only sending out notifications when necessary.
“One thing we are going to concentrate on is not overloading people with notification if they get a notification from our app, we want them to pay attention to it,” Smith said. “So, standard media releases and stuff we put out we are not necessarily going to put a notification with it, but alerts and major incidents probably put up a notification so people know what is going on in the county.”
As the app is in its beginning stages the Sheriff asks the public for patience.
