The Dublin showdown will give the Springboks lock his 50th Test cap following a bench appearance in in last Saturday’s 32-14 win over Italy.

Head Coach Rassie Erasmus made the astute decision to rest most of this team last week in favour of conserving energy for Ireland. Explaining this move, he stated:

“The majority of this team were rested last week to ensure that they recover from the physically taxing match against France, and it was always our plan to name an experienced outfit against Ireland.”

First of two changes from last week’s team sees Ruan Nortje replacing Lood de Jager. De Jager and Franco Mostert were declined to be selected for Saturday’s game given their ongoing disciplinary appeals and hearings.

Kurt-Lee Arendse’s lingering concussion has forced Erasmus into his second switch, with Canan Moodie coming in.

Props Boan Venter and Thomas du Toit are set to man the front row alongside hooker Malcolm Marx.

Locks Eben Etzebeth and Nortje will also feature, as well as Kolisi, Pieter-Steph du Toit, and Jasper Wiese.

The backline looks similarly promising, consisting the pair of Cobus Reinach and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu at halfback.

On the wings are Kolbe and Moodie, Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel at midfield, and Damian Willemse at fullback.

The two teams haven’t faced off since the Castle Lager Incoming Series in 2024, and Erasmus is certain that the clash will make for a thrilling watch.

“Ireland have been among the top-ranked teams in the last few years, and they are a force to be reckoned with at home,” he explained.

“They have a good balance of experienced and exciting young players in their squad, and they pose threats up-front and with their talented backs, so it’s going to require a massive effort to beat them.”
