The National Parks and Wildlife Service has confirmed a rare and historic discovery in Donegal as Ireland’s first ever recorded narwhal has washed up on the Inishowen coastline.
The female narwhal, an Arctic-dwelling species, was found on Sweet Nellies Beach and recovered by the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group for scientific examination.
Volunteers from the IWDG responded quickly and arrived at the scene to recover the carcass and collect skin samples.
