Harry Potter might be getting a new reboot with HBO’s television series, but the interest in the original stars is still high, especially since Tom Felton just reprised his role as Draco Malfoy on stage for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway. Rupert Grint has also opened up about the hit film series.
Grint was a quintessential part of the film series, as he played Ron Weasley, a part of the Golden Trio alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. As Radcliffe gave his blessing to the upcoming show, Grint also addressed the possibility of a return as Ron when speaking to the BBC. At the same time, he also revealed what his Hogwarts House would be.

When asked about a possible return as Ron, Grint replied, “Don’t know. Maybe in the future. Never say never.”
He continued, “But for now, I think, as much as I loved it, I’m enjoying stepping outside of that world.”
Asked if he’s tired of being tied to the role of Ron Weasley, he replied, “No, absolutely not, I love it,” he said. The actor highlighted how the story touched so many people he met. “It has a quite deep meaning to a lot of people of my generation, and even more to generations who are finding it now. It’s great. It gives me a lot of pride. It was such a huge thing.”
He admitted, “I don’t think I’ll ever quite step out of its shadow, but I’m fine with that.”

Similar to Daniel Radcliffe, who revealed recently he sent the new Boy Who Lived, Dominic McLaughlin, a letter, Grint has done the same. In the upcoming reboot, Alastair Stout will play Ron. “I wrote him a letter, before they started, passing the baton as it were,” the actor revealed.
In the letter, he shared a similar feeling as Radcliffe, noting, “It was really just wishing him all the best with it. I had so much fun stepping into this world, and I hope he has the same experience.” He also admitted he sees “a bit of family resemblance” between him and the new Ron.
Speaking about the upcoming Harry Potter reboot, Grint added, “I think it’s great that it’s a whole new thing. It’s going to be its own thing, and I think that will be fun.”
The upcoming Harry Potter series is expected to premiere on HBO Max in 2027.
