Visitors to North Bay’s WKP Kennedy Gallery can now experience two contrasting yet complementary exhibitions that celebrate both introspection and community creativity.

‘Tis the season for art in North Bay as two new exhibitions—one reflective, one festive—open their doors to visitors at the free-to-enter WKP Kennedy Gallery.

Last week, two new exhibitions debuted: GRAVÉ DANS LE RIVAGE by Marguerite Morin in Gallery I and the annual Deck the Walls: Holiday Art Sale in Gallery II.

About Gravé dans le rivage:

Everywhere one goes, they see their past. The people they’ve known, the different versions of the person they once were, and their memories all remain etched in the places that have impacted their lives. The person they’ve become is shaped by the nature in which they were raised. Meadows, rivers, and endless gravel paths anchor the roots of their being. Gravé dans le rivage thus aims to depict the landscapes that shaped the artist’s identity. In this series of oil paintings, Marguerite Morin borrows from the stereogram its ability to hide silhouettes directly under the viewer’s gaze. To do this, subtle symbols linked to the memories she shares with certain places are superimposed on the depicted landscapes; the symbols serve as clues to her past that she shares with the viewer.

“Under the same sky, everyone lives different lives, yet can manage to find themselves in what seems familiar. In this exhibition, Morin invites people from the countryside to revisit the places that raised them, with the hope that they will find themselves in the same sunsets that have marked her,” says a release.

About Deck the Walls Holiday Art Sale:

This festive exhibition and sale highlights the incredible talent of our local artists, with over 200 unique pieces adorning the gallery walls.

“From drawings and paintings to ceramics, fibre art, and photography, there’s truly something for everyone.”

Both exhibitions are on view until December 20. The WKP Kennedy gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday, noon- 4 pm, as well as an hour and a half before shows in the Betty Speers Theatre. The Gallery and Redpath Box Office will both be open late for the Downtown Christmas walk on Friday, November 28.

The WKP Kennedy Gallery is a public gallery, so it is free to visit, with no admission or fees required to view the exhibitions!
