Tears are streaming down Twink’s face. She looks distressed. I ask if she’s OK. The icon of stage and small screen claims that she recently left a message for Kevin Bakhurst, director general of RTÉ, enquiring why she hadn’t been asked on to The Late Late Show to talk about her part in the new panto.

“I didn’t even get the manners of a phone call back,” she cries. “Am I hurt? Oh, yes, I’m hurt. Am I angry? No, I’m hurt. I am so hurt. I’m so hurt!”
