FilmConvert Nitrate and CineMatch Add Support for the Nikon ZR

FilmConvert has released a new camera pack for the Nikon ZR, extending full support to both FilmConvert Nitrate and CineMatch. The update adds a camera profile tailored to the ZR sensor, giving filmmakers a more accurate starting point for color grading and an easier workflow when matching the ZR with other cameras.

If you have never used these tools before, FilmConvert Nitrate is a film emulation plugin that simulates the look of real film stocks by applying camera-specific color profiles. CineMatch, on the other hand, focuses on matching cameras by compensating for differences in sensor behavior and color science. This helps create a unified look across mixed-camera projects.

The FilmConvert Nitrate plugin is available for Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro. CineMatch works with Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Final Cut Pro.

The Nikon ZR is now fully supported in both plugins, and users can download the new camera pack directly inside FilmConvert. As someone who works mostly in post production, this is great news for me. Matching footage from multiple cameras can sometimes be a daunting task so I am always delighted to see FilmConvert keeping up with their camera support. There is a lot of buzz around the Nikon ZR, and I will certainly be seeing plenty of footage that was shot with it as the camera makes its way out to the masses.

About the Nikon ZR

The Nikon ZR has been one of the most discussed cameras of the year. It is Nikon’s first model to use RED imaging technology after the acquisition. The camera combines the Z mount with RED RAW workflows. It also offers a mix of codecs and capabilities that we do not often see from large camera manufacturers. It will be interesting to see who uses this camera and how.

If you want to learn more about the Nikon ZR, I suggest checking out some of our previous articles about the camera. We have covered it a lot over the past few months, and here are some noteworthy CineD links.
