There were some eyebrows raised in recent weeks about a few absentees from the Limerick hurling panel for 2026, with some big names no longer part of the group.
Shane Dowling opted to step away from inter-county hurling after his return as a goalkeeper in 2025. Elsewhere, 2021 All-Star recipient Séamus Flanagan was cut from the panel.
Flanagan had seen his game time restricted quite a bit in 2025, also missing one league game due to disciplinary action after he was involved in an off-the-ball incident against Cork. In saying that, at still just 28-years old, it was a surprise to see him cut from the group.
However, the Feohanagh-Castlemahon club man has quickly found a new role to fill his time.

The Irish Independent report that Séamus Flanagan has been appointed as manager of Tipperary club Boherlahan/Dualla for the 2026 season.
The move has certainly come as a surprise, especially considering Flanagan’s age. However, he is now set to guide the club through the Tipp premier intermediate ranks next season. The club reached the semi-finals of the competition in 2025, having only been promoted from the county’s third tier two years prior.
The appointment would be revealed to club members via WhatsApp in recent days. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to the new challenge.
John Kiely was clearly keen to switch up his Limerick panel for 2026, with the likes of Jason Gillane, Micheál Houlihan, Fergal O’Connor, and Cian Scully also released from the squad along with Flanagan.
The Shannonsiders will be hoping that such changes can help them return to somewhere near their best next season, having fallen short of their usual lofty standards during the most recent campaign.
