What are the signs and symptoms of a heart attack? How do we reduce stress for better heart health? And why are female heart issues under reported?
Professor Robert Byrne is director of cardiology at the Mater Private Network, Professor of Cardiovascular Research at RCSI and one of Ireland’s leading cardiologists, joins me on this week of the Real Health podcast.
One of the topics that we talked about was the effect of coffee. The Cardiologist explained, “Caffeinated beverages cause an acceleration of heart rate, they cause acceleration of blood pressure. That’s why if you’re having your blood pressure checked, don’t drink caffeinated beverages. As there is an association with heart rhythm disorders and caffeinated beverages.”
I asked the heart expert about cold immersion therapy. He told me that, “Certainly I think the benefits of cold immersion or sea swimming are well defined. You also can find doctors who have opinions against them, but I think on balance it’s felt that these therapies are thought to bring more good than do harm.”
