Social welfare recipients should be aware that a shake-up in the payment schedule is expected in the coming weeks.
With Christmas and New Year’s just around the corner next month, banks and post offices will be shutting their doors for several days during the festive period. Due to these closures over the Christmas week, some social welfare recipients will receive their due payments early.
The exact payment schedule is yet to be confirmed, but it’s expected that the payments will be issued the week before Christmas. Typically, social welfare recipients receive a double payment the week prior to Christmas to compensate for the closure of banks and post offices the following week, reports RSVP Live.
Another shake-up is likely on the horizon ahead of 1st January, as banks and post offices will also be closed on New Year’s Day. The Department of Social Protection will provide further details on when exactly recipients can expect their payments to arrive, closer to the festive season.
