Sydney Sweeney is a rising star who has been expanding her portfolio with a wide range of contrasting projects. One of her most high-profile roles in recent years was her appearance in Madame Web, a movie with a 10% Rotten Tomatoes score that bombed at the box office.

While Sweeney’s first comic book movie was a flop, there’s another role many fans would like to see her take on. James Gunn is bringing in new talent for the DCU, and if Sweeney is willing to give another comic book adaptation a try, there’s a role she would be absolutely perfect for.

Madame Web Didn’t Take Advantage of Sweeney’s Talent

In Madame Web, Sydney Sweeney played Julia Cornwall, a version of Spider-Woman that was created in the 1980s. While Sweeney was a good fit for the part, Madame Web failed to live up to its potential, and the movie didn’t win over critics or audiences.

There are a lot of reasons Madame Web failed, but Sweeney isn’t one of them. Sony’s attempt to build a shared universe of Spider-Man projects didn’t work out, and other films, like Kraven the Hunter, were also box office flops.

In fact, many fans thought that Sweeney was one of the highlights of Madame Web and want to see her in another superhero role. Sweeney has a busy schedule, with projects like an untitled Gundam movie and an adaptation of the game Split Fiction in the works, but fans are still hoping to see her play an iconic DC character.

Sydney Sweeney Would Be Perfect For Power Girl

After Superman, the DCU is on a high, and fans are excited to see new heroes join the universe. One character many are hoping to see is Power Girl, a fan-favorite character with a connection to the Man of Steel. Power Girl is a Kryptonian and an alternate universe version of Superman who is stranded in the main DC Universe.

Fans are already clamoring to see Sweeney in the role and have even created artwork of her in the Power Girl costume. Milly Alcock’s Supergirl was introduced in Superman, and she’s set to star in a solo film in 2026, so all the groundwork to add Power Girl to the DCU has already been laid.

Sweeney would be fantastic as the lead of a superhero movie, but she would also be a great supporting character and could bounce off of Milly Alcock and David Corenswet. While it’s probably too late for her to join the cast of Supergirl, fans would be thrilled to see her show up in another DCU film.

James Gunn hasn’t said much about his intentions for Power Girl, but Sweeney is the perfect choice for the part. That said, there are other popular fan casts for the character, including Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist and French actress Léa Seydoux. Until Gunn officially announces Power Girl, fans will have to keep speculating.
