Jason Statham is off to a remote island, but trouble isn’t far away. Here’s the trailer for 2026 action thriller Shelter.
After the disappointment of this year’s A Working Man, a surprisingly glee-free, routine and fairly dull Jason Statham actioner, my hopes are high that the first of his 2026 projects will get us back to The Beekeeper levels.
It’s called Shelter, and is directed by Ric Roman Waugh, who in recent times has steered Angel Has Fallen and the two Greenland films, starring Gerard ‘The’ Butler.
The Statham plays a former assassin who – yes! – has to dig back into the playbook of his previous life. In the midst of it all, he happens to be living on a remote island, and he only goes and rescues a girl in the midst of a storm. Consequently, things happen, and action ensues.
Alongside The Statham in the cast are Daniel Mays, Bondie Bae Breathnach, Naomi Ackie and Bill Nighy. And the first trailer for Shelter looks pretty much like this…
The official synopsis, meanwhile, reads as follows…
On a remote coastal island, a reclusive man rescues a young girl from a deadly storm, drawing them both into danger. Forced out of isolation, he must confront his turbulent past while protecting her, sending them on a tense journey of survival and redemption.
The plan is for Shelter to land in cinemas in January of next year. Then, in the summer, there’s the small matter of Mutiny to look forward to, also rich in Stathamness. And after that, it’s straight onto The Beekeeper 2. As for Ric Roman Waugh, he actually shot Greenland: Migration before Shelter, but it’s going to arrive in cinemas around the same time (in the US, it’s due first week of January). But surely he’s looking like the director to bring Jason Statham and Gerard Butler together on the big screen under one action-splattered roof? We wait and see.
More on Shelter as we hear it…
