Jason Statham fans have received great news about the upcoming sequel to one of the action star’s greatest films in recent years. The Beekeeper 2 has officially wrapped filming.

Director Timo Tjahjanto (Nobody 2) shared the production update in a post on Instagram alongside a photo of one of the film’s clapper boards. “The Beekeper 2 has officially wrapped,” Tjahjanto wrote. “What an incredible, exhausting, hardcore, enlightening and ultimately beautiful journey it has been.” The sequel to 2024’s The Beekeeper, it will see Statham reprising his role as Adam Clay – the highly skilled assassin known and feared as the titular Beekeeper. It will be released by Amazon MGM Studios.

“I’ve never been so humbled & perpetually inspired by the constant presence of these larger-than-life cast and crew that are just absolutely the best at what they do, always in tune with their creative and technical instinct & never once cracked under extreme pressure,” Tjahjanto continued. “Thank you all the London & British Beekeeper 2 Crew, you guys are Grade A peoples.”

Tjahjanto took over as director for The Beekeeper 2, with its predecessor being produced and directed by Suicide Squad’s David Ayer. The new film is written by Umair Aleem and sees several of the original cast members returning. Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Jemma Redgrave and Jeremy Irons all join Statham in reprising their roles. Yara Shahidi, Pom Klementieff and Adam Copeland have all been confirmed to join the cast in new, currently undisclosed roles.

The first Beekeeper film saw Statham playing a retired government assassin who seeks out revenge after his loving landlady falls victim to a phishing scam. The action/thriller film performed well with critics and audiences, grossing an impressive $162.6 million worldwide against a modest budget of $40 million, quickly prompting a sequel to head into production.

With the creative team switch-up, it remains to be seen if The Beekeeper 2 will be able to reach the same levels of success as the first film. A year later, The Beekeeper is still Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with a critics’ approval score of 71% and an even higher audience rating of 92%. Dubbed one of Statham’s best films, audience members often praised it for being fast-paced, full of action, and delivering everything Statham fans could want in one of the action star’s projects.

While plot details about the upcoming sequel remain scarce at this time, Tjahjanto had previously shared some details about what fans can expect — including some epic villains. “In terms of, like, the villains that we have for Beekeeper 2, especially, you’re gonna be blown away just how ‘genre’ it feels, you know,” he teased. “Almost like something out of an anime… like manga pages, you know…”

After previously handling the sequel Nobody 2, Tjahjanto has plenty of experience stepping into critically and commercially successful franchises, but the director previously revealed how he didn’t want to disappoint The Beekeeper’s leading action star. “Look, working with Jason Statham, he’s such a perfectionist. He was like, ‘Timo, please, can we do this?’ And I said, ‘Alright, Jason, I’m trying so hard not to disappoint you.'”
