The fallen Christmas lights in Drogheda on Friday.

There was a narrow escape in Drogheda this afternoon after strong winds tore down part of the town’s Christmas lights display shortly after 1pm, bringing masonry with it and smashing the rear window of a car at the busy Peter Street / West Street / Laurence Street / Shop Street junction.

A few hours after the incident, Senator Alison Comyn confirmed that the Government has now approved once-off funding for Louth County Council to fully restore the damaged Christmas lights.
