At just 22 years old, Bailey Bass has already landed two career-defining roles. 2022 was a wonderful year for the blossoming star as it not only welcomed her into the fold of James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, but also ushered her into the undead world of AMC and Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe via the series Interview with the Vampire. And, although she ultimately didn’t reprise the latter role for the title’s sophomore season, she remains part of the Avatar family with her next appearance set for Avatar: Fire and Ash. While chatting with Collider’s Therese Lacson during the press tour for the third Avatar feature, Bass opened up about which character was more of a challenge to play — Claudia, the child vampire in Interview with the Vampire, or Tsireya, the Na’vi and daughter of Ronal (Kate Winslet) and Tonowari (Cliff Curtis).
In the most relatable response we’ve ever heard, Bass said, “I think Interview with the Vampire is probably harder because we didn’t have to do night shoots.” Anyone who has ever worked the graveyard shift will undoubtedly be on the same page as Bass, who continued, “I think all of us now have done night shoots, and there is something about playing a Na’vi and then being able to be in a performance capture. It’s the same call time almost every day. There was just more consistency.”
On top of that feeling of consistency and being able to plan her life knowing when she’d be on set, which sounds like it was largely during daylight hours, both Claudia and Tsireya have given Bass the fulfillment that she was looking for when she got into the industry. “I think that’s more of a personal thing, like as an actor,” she explained, “Give me character work, and I will sink my teeth into it.”
Bailey Bass’ Next Steps

Beyond Avatar: Fire and Ash, Bass is expected to reprise her role as the young and quick-witted Na’vi in the next two installments, which will round out Cameron’s lofty vision for the franchise. As for her dance with the undead, Bass stepped away from Interview with the Vampire following the show’s debut season, with Delainey Hayles taking over in her absence. While Claudia met a brutal end in the penultimate episode of the second season, Hayles was spotted in the trailer for the upcoming third season, The Vampire Lestat.
Avatar: Fire and Ash arrives in cinemas on December 19, and Interview with the Vampire is now streaming on AMC+ with Season 3 set to arrive sometime next year.
