Goodwill and political support for the farming sector cannot be taken for granted

While we often are critical of the Irish Government when it comes to policies affecting farmers, spare a thought for our British farming colleagues facing the appalling vista of a savage exposure to inheritance tax.
To be fair, in my time doing pre-budget submissions, I always had the sense that, broadly speaking, government ministers and civil servants wanted to maintain agricultural relief on Capital Acquisitions Tax (CAT).
